Living after immigration
Canada is a diverse blend of races, ethnicities and cultures and is one of the world’s most preferred countries for immigration. Over 200,000 people come to Canada and become permanent residents every year and almost all of them are happy with the new life that they lead in a country with a very high quality of life and one that is rated among the best to live in by various organizations around the world.
While Canadians, by nature are very tolerant people, they do have their own unique culture and habits and it would be a good idea for all immigrants to do as they do while blending in. This doesn’t mean that one should forget traditions and the like but having personal idiosyncrasies when living in another country is not the best way to fit in and make it your home.
Professionally, Canadians are determined workers. It is not uncommon to see the lights lit in several offices around the various metros in the country even after work hours. When you come to Canada, it is best to have a good work ethic at your workplace and maintain cordial relations with employees. While an office or any workplace for that matter seems to portray only professional relationships, usually Canadians are known to extend their relations with coworkers to a more personal level.
The local languages in Canada are English and French. In Quebec, French is more widely spoken than English. The local dialects have their own flavor and are unique. It is enough to be fluent in one language but a working knowledge of the other will take you far in your attempt to mingle with the people and understand their culture better. There is a good chance that you will be working with or living near people of the same origin as yours or those from your country. Nothing is more important to immigrants than to remember their roots. For almost every country in the world, there would be an association of sorts where you can socialize with others from the same background as you.
Once you immigrate to Canada, there are a lot of places to visit within the country, and the best part is, that as a permanent resident, you are free to travel as you please. Canadians enjoy the leisure of traveling a lot. Festivals and carnivals in the country are celebrated in a grand manner and most celebrations usually are open to the public. For those of you who have just come to Canada, these are a great opportunity to learn more about the local culture.
Canada is undoubtedly a great place to live and work. By putting in a little effort to learn the ways of the people, you and your family will lead a great life here. With relaxed laws and individual rights and caring people, there are very few countries in the world that offer a better quality of life than Canada.
